Organic farming Network

The organic agriculture network of the Gami Seva Sevana was initiated in the year 1986 after the 1st ever-Organic Agriculture workshop in Sri Lanka of 10days duration. Since those early days it has expanded and now has a membership of 32 NGOs practicing and promoting organic agriculture through out the island. The main aim of the organic agriculture network is to disseminate newer organic agriculture trends and techniques throughout Sri Lanka. Knowledge is regularly updated through network meetings that are held every 2 months (6 meetings) in the year. The Gami Seva Sevana first practices the techniques before informing the network members and if it is suitable to our needs we disseminate to the rest of the members through regular organic agriculture training. Model building in the form of demonstrations are a good advertisement for advocacy and lobbying for organic agriculture. Alternative agriculture methods such as organic agriculture eradicate the agro chemicals dependence. The task at hand is a great challenge to the organic network.

The main concern which has to addressed by all is how to lobby government agencies to practice organic agriculture and to make organic agriculture into a national policy and to make people have food always in the home.
