About Us

Organic agriculture for Food security and health

The Gami Seva Sevana ( GSS) is a mid sized NGO situated in the mid country tea plantation area of Galaha in the district of Kandy at an elevation of over 2300 ft above sea level. This organisation came in to existance in the year 1977 to the initiation of the Christian Workers Fellowship. From the early years of it's existance the activites of the o\rganisation was the promotion of agriculture and social empowerment work with special emphasies on dairy farming and gardening. The organisation was officially registered as a fully fledged NGO on the 7th of January 1981.

The organisation works with small farmers whose land holdings are less than 1 hectare. They are formed into small self help savings groups. Since the first organic agriculture work shop in 1986, our organisation is dedicated towards the promotion of organic agriculture. We have gained experience and a reputation as a fully fledged demonstration and a practical training institute. We specialise in Soil Regenaration , Animal husbandry, Organic farming , Agro forestry, Bio-dynamics, Permaculture , Vermi composting etc.

Organic agriculture is an agricultural system that promotes environmentally, Socially and Economically sound production of food and fibre etc. It significantly reduces externally inputs by avoiding th use of Chemosynthetic fertilizer . Instead working with nature to increase both agricultural yeild and desease resistance. Organic farming also respects local traditions and plant resources mainly concerning food security and  health offering  a brighter future for farmers.

The Gami Seva Sevana is helping to train farmers at field and institutional level.
